Cowboy Nation

One win.

A statement was made late Sunday night.  The Statement?  We're back!  The return of many injured players excluding the Jones boys Felix and Adam, sparked the running game and brought life to the defense for the first time in over a month.  Both sides of the ball played well.  Tony Romo returned, putting up numbers like Brad Johnson, yet it didn't look quite the same.  After getting off to a rusty start, Romo was able to navigate the boys through bumpy terrain that is the Washington defense.  He had two interceptions, one that was his fault and one that was TO's fault.  TO proves that it didn't matter who the quarterback was, he was going to put up an average game.  On the other side, Roy Williams put up similiar numbers as TO, but most of his receptions came off of drive saving first downs.  In such a short time, Roy Williams has suddenly become more valuable than TO, playing with heart.  Don't tell me that Cowboys' fans don't appreciate the first down signal from the receiver, once he gets it for his team.  Kind of reminds me of another guy who used to do that?  Anyone?  Rhymes with Treytaker?  Anyone, anyone remember...HOFer.  First name the same as one of the Jackson five?  Anyone?

Who the hell does Jay Ratliff Think he is?  Demacus Ware?  Two sacks for Ratliff, who's celebration could be heard Sunday night.  Possibly one of the better "sack celebrations" out there.  I think he scared Al Michaels.  One of Ratliff's sacks pushed the Redskins out of field goal range, and cost them points on a failed attempt.  Great play from the line, minus the first quarter.  The Redskins were able to exploit the middle with that faker Portis.  Good thing Jay and the gang were able to wrangle them in.  I think Jason Campbell has a few dents courtesy of the Dallas Defense.  As important as the return of Tony Romo, the return of Terence Newman was probably more important.  Newman put a saddle on Santana Moss and even picked his pocket.  The so called "Cowboy Killer" only had 29 yards on 5 catches.  Thanks Terence.  The added coverage gave Jay Ratliff and Demarcus Ware ample time to get to the QB.  Thanks Terence.  Interceptions are scarce this season, who can remember the last one?  Helloooo NNNNEwman.  And don't forget that 4th and 4 pass to Moss, he didn't catch it, why?  Newman swatted it away.  What else can you say about a shutdown corner?  Glad to have you back.

Six quick hits from my Six shooter:

*  Flozel Adams had a great game as did the whole offensive line.  But the guy has got to stop the penalties.  As John Madden said, Flozel leads the world in offside penalties.  What's it gonna take Flozel?  Shock Treatment?  I suggest a towel party for every penalty.  For those of you who don't know what a towel party is, see Full Metal Jacket.

*  Did anyone else notice how biased Al Michaels is?  When the Redskins were ahead, he was just elated.  I though he was going to throw on a feather head dress and start doing a rain dance.  The guy was so happy.  But when Dallas took the lead, Michaels interests turned elsewhere.  Talking about the next game (i know that's his job) early in the fourth and playing around with John Madden.  Dude, i know you hate the Cowboys, but here's to hiding it more.  A lot more.

*  The Splint.  John Madden was totally obsessed with Tony Romo's splint.  He put it on twice, the second time with much difficulty and talked about it as if it were the financial crisis.  John, calm down on the splint.  It's a pinkie.  Quick note on that, had the Cowboys lost, how big would the pinkie be then?

*  Clinton Portis is a faker.  The whole thing was set up to throw the Cowboys off.  There was no big problem on his knee, at least, as that's the way Al Michaels put it.  Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Felix Jones is not even practicing.  Go back to Denver Portis.

*  Tackling is becoming a huge problem early in the game.  Runners are getting the benifit of huge gains on Dallas' lack of tackling.  Oh sure, the second quarter and the second half it got better.  But if there is a dominate team, you can't give them an inch.  The tackling has got to get better.  That goes for you as well Mike Jenkins.

*  What can be said about Terence Newman.  He probably saved the game, on many different levels.  It's good to have a CB that will work hard in practice and in the game.  And will not attack those who were hired to protect him and not have a drinking problem.  Also, not have 15 stints with the law.  And is not dumb.

Next Week the Fierce San Fransico 49'ers.
