Cinderella didn't wear a jersey nor did she wear a helmet. She was also not glamourous or graceful until magic surrounded her one night. Sports analyzers are calling Texas Tech a "Cinderella" team. We were always the belle of the ball. No one knew it, but the Texas Tech Red Raiders sure did.
The loss against OU this weekend was devastating. It broke my heart to see fans dropping away from their team for ONE loss. Texas and OU both have the exact same record as us going into the end of the football season. So why do we suddenly drop so low in the BCS rankings? Maybe because the sports analyzers and the rest of the world think Tech was always just a Cinderella team. They thought they'd give us a little glory by sitting up on that #2 position then whack us off after one bad game.
The players who step on that field each week wearing a Raider jersey are merely young players trying to play a game. They cannot always win and they cannot always change the world. The sports analyzers of the world wanted these players to give them a fairy tale. They basically told them if they didn't kill OU then everyone would leave them. If Cinderella doesn't put on the slipper... she isn't really Cinderella.
Texas Tech has been winning this season because they are amazing players. Graham Harrell doesn't just have Michael Crabtree. Harrell passes it to Woods, Batch, Morris... hey, they all can score. Looking back at OU this weekend I really only remember the name of Bradford. What other team has so many standout performers?
So our fairy tale isn't really a fairy tale. Do they all have happy endings? With one loss in a whole season filled with doubts we could ever win I believe it is a truly destined for a happy ending. Cinderella? More like Peter Pan who always believed in order to find your happy ending you have to just keep flying.
