With all the stars in Dallas, it's been, surprisingly, a quiet offseason for the Cowboys.
What do I mean? Just look around. The Tony Romo-Jessica Simpson lovefest. Are they together or are they not? Do we really care? The rumors are out there from time to time, but for the most part it hasn't been the three-ring circus that it was last November, December and January. That's a good thing. Maybe Romo can concentrate on what's he paid to do -- win football games -- this fall.
What about T.O.? Sure he had the missed phone call from the league and now he's facing placement in the random drug-testing program, though he's never tested positive for a foreign substance. But other than that the most we've heard about T.O. this offseason has been who will be lining up across from him -- Terry Glenn, Patrick Crayton, even Joe Horn.
Well, it won't be Horn, guarantee that. Jerry Jones and the rest of the world knows that Horn's playing days are numbered, if not over. Glenn will probably be back in the fold sooner rather than later, and Crayton, while a viable No. 3 WR, isn't the playmaker Dallas wishes it had opposite of Owens.
Then there's Pacman Jones. Oh, I'm sorry, it's Adam Jones now. He with the checkered past, with the supposed housing foreclosure in Tennessee. He of all those legal issues in Las Vegas. Not a peep. Nothing. Other than coming out and saying that he wanted to clear the air, leave the Pacman name in the past, along with everything else, and start fresh in Dallas, he's been somewhat quiet.
So much so that he's actually been working on his game, staying in Dallas, hoping to get the rust off that's collected in the year since he last played a meaningful NFL game and make a good enough impression on NFL commissioner Roger Goodell that he'll be reinstated in early September.
It's been that kind of summer in Big D, but can it last? HBO's coming to training camp later this month in California, and Lord knows what it will drum up to get ratings. Then the preseason games will kick in and people will start to take notice and before long Sept. 7 will be here and the 'Boys will be in Cleveland for the season opener.
Then everybody will take notice.
We can only hope then that things will be as quiet as they've been lately, unless that noise you hear is Dallas steamrolling through the NFC East toward that elusive playoff victory, and, gulp, should I dare say it, a possible Super Bowl run.
