It's hard to believe that the NFL season is already coming to an end.  It comes and goes so quickly that sometimes we forget to stop and smell the turf.  This season has been another exciting one  (despite the persistent failures of my Cowboys)  where teams that didn't have high expectations made a playoff run (49ers, Broncos, Bengals) and teams that were expected to contend fell flat on their faces (Eagles, Jets, Colts).  It was also a season in which a 27 year old passing record fell twice and a third QB threw for 5,000 yards for the first time in history.

Sadly, the running game seems to have become an afterthought for most NFL offenses but a couple of teams (Ravens and 49ers) have shown that defense and ball control can still be a championship formula.  And that brings us to this weekend.  Two of those three 5,000 yard passers will be on display in this weeks championship games against tenacious defenses and persistent run games.  It's the old NFL versus the new NFL and this weekend could determine the trajectory of the league for years to come.  Will teams finally realize that the NFL rules are two conducive to passing the ball and there is no way a team can expect to win a championship with defense and a good run game?  Or will the football traditionalists be vindicated by the phrase "Defense Wins Championships" (just to have the NFL change another rule)? One or both of these questions could be answered in the next 36 hours and potentially change the way several teams go about their business.

Good morning nation,

Yes, it is only one hour into Christmas eve at this point, but after 4 glasses of honey whiskey on the rocks and putting my dog to sleep, I am ready to ramble.

First of all, isn't it just a bit awkward that the majority of the games are on Saturday and not Sunday?  This is definitely to accommodate the NBA and not Christmas, but it does guarantee us a great sports weekend.  I am looking forward to staying up all night and not waking up until football is on!  But I have errands to run and people to see tomorrow, so I am just going to stay up all night and wake up early.  But I am digressing…

At 25 years of age, I have gotten used to not getting Christmas presents.  My sister likes to give me hip clothes from time to time because she thinks that I am getting less cool with age (ridiculous) but I've come to expect nothing more than maybe 10-12 adult beverages for Christmas (please suspend your judgment).  But I am planning on writing a letter to Santa this year.  Hell, I may even go to the mall tomorrow morning and sit on old Saint Nick's lap to deliver the message personally:  "All I want for Christmas is a Cowboys playoff berth."  Yes, I said it.  Why wait?  The Cowboys could wrap this thing up tomorrow and be in the tournament ready to exercise the playoff daemons of the last 16 years.

Happy Victory Monday to everyone whom it applies:

It does apply to the Cowboys who handled the Bucs so well that they only needed 3 points in the second half to win by two touchdowns.  But is that slow second half foreshadowing for things to come?  I'll discuss later.

But yes, the Cowboys handled those Bucs in enemy territory, and put themselves in a position to make a playoff run.  Now the Bucs had lost seven in a row prior to Saturday night, but that was all the more reason for this game to be a trap game.  Fortunately for the Cowboys, they did not fall into this trap and now they are in the driver's seat of the NFC East...sort of.

While the Cowboys currently own the NFC East lead by a game, they are not the only team in the division they are not the only team who controls their own destiny.  The New York Football Giants, despite an embarrassing loss to the last place Washington Redskins, will still win the division if they win out.  It seems highly likely that week 17 will determine who wins this division.

Going Forward

I think there is a general consensus in the football world that the Dallas Cowboys are in a heap of trouble.  For two consecutive weeks the 'Boys have had an opportunity to distance themselves away from the NFC East pack after taking the division lead during a four game win streak.  But for the last two weeks the Cowboys have gotten out coached and out hustled by the Arizona Cardinals, and then they let the New York Giants ring the door bell, break into their house, and steal their division.  To make matters worse, of the Cowboys 6 losses they had ample opportunity to win every game except the "Imma piss on you like R. Kelly"  Eagles game (I'll have to tell you about that one day).  But as a famous former Cowboys coach once said, "You are who you are," and these are the Cowboys.  They always have the talent compete and with Tony Romo at quarterback, but sometimes they find the most perplexing ways to lose games

I think I can honestly say that everyone is quite relieved that we will have football to watch this year. I don't know what I would do after coming home from a blessed Sunday morning worship and have no football to watch. So it's a good thing we don't have to worry about that. Well let's talk some football, last year was very disappointing to say the least. But I saw some positive glimpses of hope. There is life in my Cowboys and woe to all of you Cowboy haters out there who are counting us out. True Champions never give up hope. I believe that Jason Garrettt has what it takes to rejuvenate that winning spirit back into the Cowboy locker room. There have been some serious cuts in the organization that were long overdue and I think they were positive cuts. I can't wait until the season starts and all of the football debates begin. I'd be interested to know who do you think will be the team to watch leading up to the start of the football season. I'm going with my Cowboys of course. Everyone always counts us out which is a terrible mistake. Just ask the NBA Champion Dallas Mavericks they were counted out too. You know I had to plug the Dallas Mavericks. I love my city and I support all the home teams.

I'm watching first and Skip Bayless suggested that the Top 10 should be all quarterbacks. While I'm sure he was just playing devil's advocate, this discussion of who are the best players in the league really needs to be refined.

We are not talking about the "Most Valuable Players" which is why I am so upset with the ESPN list being so QB heavy. QB will always be the "Most Valuable" Position on the field, but we are talking about the best players, period! I liken it to the Madden rating. Many football purist won't like this comparison but it's about as accurate as you can get. When I'm trying to determine the top 10 I'm thinking, "Who in football today would have a 97-99 Madden rating?" Tom Brady (99), Peyton Manning (98), Adrian Peterson (98), Andre Johnson (98), Chr

This probably isn't news to anyone, but I truly do not appreciate the heinous rating that DeMarcus Ware received on the NFL Network's Top 100 players, nor do I appreciate the outright disrespect that Marshall Faulk showed on the Reaction Show afterwards.

First of all, everyone is well aware of who the remaining ten players are:  Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Adrian Peterson, Andre Johnson, Drew Brees, Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Troy Polomalu, Darrell Revis, and Julius Peppers.  Despite their impressive résumés, it is not hard to make an argument that DeMarcus Ware is a better football player than either Andre Johnson or Julius Peppers (Andre Johnson is a Man Beast and this ass whipping alone might put him in my top 10).  But it is hard to make a comparison between DeMarcus Ware and Johnson because they play completely different positions and I don't have a problem with having one wide receiver in the top 10 (even though offensive lineman get no such respect).  But any direct comparison between

First I would like to recognize the accomplishments of the Miami Heat and the Dallas Mavericks.  It was been quite a show watching these teams make it to the NBA Finals and I believe it will be a fantastic match-up.

With that said I must admit a dark secret to the blog world right here live on a Dallas Cowboys news posting site!  I am not a Mavericks fan.  In fact, I often root against the Mavericks, but I must admit that I have garnered a whole new respect for that basketball team.  They have a ton of hungry veterans led by the best (offensive) player in basketball- Dirk.  And you have to respect their explosiveness late in games.  Those comebacks against OKC almost looked orchestrated they were so on point.

But the Miami Heat will win this NBA championship.  Why?  Because they do it the old fashioned way. They do it the gritty, nasty way.  They play lockdown defense.  Every one his hustling, including the

They call it March Madness.  Rather simple concept isn’t it.  I’ve recently seen imitations of the title:  March Mania, March Music Madness but the gist of the thing is that March is a crazy month…especially in the world of sports.
At center stage, you have the annual NCAA basketball tournament.  Technically there are two tournaments, but I’m talking about the Big Dance, not the homecoming dance (sorry feminist).  Already, madness is around us.  Not only did the city of Richmond put two teams in the Sweet 16 but the team with the lowest expectations, VCU, is now in the Final Four with just as good a chance as anybody of being National Champion.  If you thought the city burned in the 19th century you just wait until Rams bring a National Title to the newly anointed Hoops Capital of the World.  But madness also has its downside…

I'm not sure if the New York Knicks have all the pieces in place right now, but by adding Carmelo Anthony they are certainly one big step closer to being a NBA championship contender. Although considering the mismanagement over the last 10 years it's heard to believe they won't mess this up too.

Watch for the Knicks to make some strong stragetic moves during this off season to sure things up and make them a true Eastern conference powerhouse.

New York NY Direct TV can bring you all the Knicks action you want.
