However,  not only did they win, but they won in convincing fashion against the Philadelphia Eagles.  Holding one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL to 14 points in two games, the defense is playing inspired football.  With the front 7 applying pressure on the running game and the quarterback, the secondary locks down on big name receivers.   Next week is a favorable match up against the Minnesota Vikings offensive line.  They continue to allow Favre to be sacked, and Adrian Peterson is unable to have his explosive speed contribute when he can barely get to the line of scrimmage.

]]> <![CDATA[Big Test Coming for Big D]]> http://www.dallascowboysnews.com/schwartznick/weblog/8892/big-test-coming-for-big-d.html http://www.dallascowboysnews.com/schwartznick/weblog/8892/big-test-coming-for-big-d.html Mon, 14 Dec 2009 19:24:08 PST The Dallas Cowboys have entered their December swoon, and yet I'm not worried.  The defense couldn't contain the pass.  The offense couldn't punch it in from the one yard line.  And off we go to New Orleans, a team that will pass all over you, that will stuff you at the line.

 But the Cowboys have a great opportunity.  If they can beat the Saints, they keep their playoff hopes alive and stay one game ahead of the Giants.  If they can beat the Saints, some of the doubts in December will go away.  They face their toughest test on Saturday.

 Tony Romo hasn't looked horrible this December: far from it.  He hasn't thrown perfectly on every pass, but he's completing the passes he needs to and avoiding turning the ball over.  Normally he is part of the problem in December.  This time, he could be the solution.  Against the Giants he threw for 392 yards, 3 touchdowns and set new records for attempts and completions.  Against the Chargers he was less stellar, but still threw for 249 yards and 2 touchdowns. Over the past three games his lowest QB rating was 111.7.

]]> <![CDATA[Week 6 Big Week in Big D]]> http://www.dallascowboysnews.com/schwartznick/weblog/4831/week-6-big-week-in-big-d.html http://www.dallascowboysnews.com/schwartznick/weblog/4831/week-6-big-week-in-big-d.html Thu, 16 Oct 2008 17:41:48 PDT It has been quite a week for the Dallas Cowboys.  This past weekend they faced the Arizona Cardinals, and were beaten in the first few minutes of overtime.  Special teams looked terrible, allowing the Cardinals to take the ball to the house on the opening kickoff.  The defense started strong but fizzled out towards the end, having a second half breakdown that led to Arizona scores on back to back drives.  And once again, the offense looked stagnant at times.  Tony Romo had absolutely no time.  He was constantly rushed, hit, sacked, and forced to fumble.  Most of this can be attributed to the offensive line.  The Cardinal defenders were able to push and slip past them.  As a result, Romo broke his pinkie finger, and Mat McBriar's punt was blocked in OT and taken in for the winning score.

]]> <![CDATA[Dallas Cowboys Week 5 The Best of Both Worlds]]> http://www.dallascowboysnews.com/schwartznick/weblog/4587/dallas-cowboys-week-5-the-best-of.html http://www.dallascowboysnews.com/schwartznick/weblog/4587/dallas-cowboys-week-5-the-best-of.html Wed, 08 Oct 2008 08:47:21 PDT So here we are coming up on week six in the NFL.  As the weeks go on, the NFC East continues to solidify it's position as the best division in football.  The New York Giants are in the lead with a 4-0 record, but they really haven't played any dynamic defense.  The Washington Redskins have yet to throw an interception, and are 4-1.  The Philadelphia Eagles fell to 2-3, but don't think they're out of contention just yet.  Our Dallas Cowboys wrapped up week five with a 31-22 victory of the Cincinnati Bengals, thanks to some heroics on both offense and defense.

Best Offensive Player of the Week:

Two weeks ago I gave the best offensive player award to ground pounder Marion Barber.  I'm going to keep that trend this week, and give it to the rookie running back Felix Jones.  This is the fourth game that Jones has had a touchdown (against Philadelphia he returned a kickoff) and the third with more than 60 yards despite working in a dual backs system that heavily favors Barber.  This week Jones had 9 rushes for 96 yards and a touchdown.  That's pretty impressive for a rookie who sees limited handoffs.  He has an icredible ability to get to the outside utilizing blockers, and then puts on an incredible burst of speed to get through the secondary defenders.  While Barber thrives using contact and taking defenders head on, Jones is able to get around them much faster.  Not a bad fantasy pick if I say so myself.

]]> <![CDATA[TO Returning to His Old Ways Dont Count On It]]> http://www.dallascowboysnews.com/schwartznick/weblog/4446/to-returning-to-his-old-ways-dont.html http://www.dallascowboysnews.com/schwartznick/weblog/4446/to-returning-to-his-old-ways-dont.html Thu, 02 Oct 2008 17:48:50 PDT Something I've noticed this past week on ESPN are the shows that spend a good chunk of time talking about Terrell Owens' comments this past weekend following a 24-26 loss to the Redskins.  Owens said that he wasn't receiving enough passes and the ones that did come his way were sometimes uncatchable.  From that very night, Sportscenter began to question his motives (especially since 18 plays were directed towards him) and in the days following all of the other ESPN shows focused on whether this would be the Cowboys' downfall.

 I've got news for you: absolutely not.  T.O. has played a long time in this league, and still doesn't have a ring to show for it.  He knows his best bet is with this Dallas team, under Jason Garrett and alongside Tony Romo in their pass happy offense.  In the past, comments like these could be seen as a coming rift in the team:

This is my first official blog and I plan on updating at least two times a week.  My Best of Both Worlds section will focus on the best offensive player and best defensive player of the week.  Let's begin!

 Best Offensive Player of the Week:

This week's best offensive player award falls to Marion "the Barbarian" Barber.  With T.O. limited to only two catches and Tony Romo not looking like his Pro-Bowl self, Barber and the running game carried the offense.  He ground pounded his way to 142 yards and a touchdown in only 28 rushes.  His performance gave proof that the Cowboys are definitely contenders, even if the passing game is suffering. 

Special honors go to Miles Austin and Felix Jones.  When Romo started playing like his normal self, he was able to connect with Austin for a 63 yard pass (that set up Barber's TD) and a 52 yard touchdown pass.  Felix Jones rushed a 60 yard touchdown in the second quarter, putting the Cowboys over the Packers permanently.
