Smart Shopper: Team Free Agency Award 

Nominees: Detroit Lions, Cleveland Browns, Chicago Bears, Washington Redskins 

Winner: Chicago Bears 

Despite the compliments I laid on the Lions earlier, another NFC North team has had the most explosive free agent period and that is the Bears.  Yes, they probably overpaid for players over the age of 30, but they did what they had to in a weaker free agent market. And let's not forget that this team pretty much gave up their whole draft to get Jay Cutler.  They still don't have an elite receiver, but the additions of Chester Taylor and Julius Peppers let's you know that they don't plan on falling too far behind the Packers and the Vikings.  If you can get consistent effort out of Peppers, and a healthy Brian Urlacher, this could be one fo the most formidable front sevens in the game.  And if you can put more emphasis on the run and get a few big plays of of Cutler and Devin Hester then you've got a playoff calibur team on your hands.

The Chicago Bears have had a lot going on this off season. More changes came this week. Reports from msnbc.com have confirmed that the Bears main man on special teams will no longer be out on the field returning. Devin Hester will no longer be on the receiving end of kick and punt returns. The 26 year old speedy wide out is now focuses all his attention to becoming a better all around receiver. Hester had 11 special teams touchdowns in the 2006 and 2007 seasons. With such success, more teams started to avoid kicking to Hester which lowered his stats last season. Hester did not return kicks the final four games of the 2008 season, with him emerging as a reliable wide receiver.

As OTA's and minicamps progress while training camp begin to roll over the horizon, America's favorite sport nears its regular season.  While nobody knows how well teams will do in a season with the randomness of injuries and several other factors, it's always interesting to look ahead at the schedule and prognosticate.  Unlike most people, I'm not going to give just a win or loss for each game, rather I'm going to predict how many times the Steelers would win if they played a team 10 times.  For instance if the Steelers were playing a very crappy team, I would say 9/10 or 10/10.  At the end i will add up the wins and divide by 10, giving us how many wins they will have this season.

Well fans another Bears season has come to an end with no postseason play. Although The season wasn't a total loss, there are some issues that need to be resolved. However it is now time to prepare for the monotonous routine of off-season chaos. The owner's meetings start next month, followed by the rookie combine, and then the draft is right around the corner. plus we must not forget the free agency calamity that ultimately finds out who has the deepest pockets.

of the Minnesota Vikings franchise, the Vikes opened their inaugural season against the powerhouse Chicago Bears.  Nobody (probably not even the Vikings themselves) gave themselves much of a chance against the class of the NFL, but on that day a young whippersnapper named Fran Tarkenton threw for 250 yards and four touchdowns to beat Da Bears 37-13 that, in all reality, rivals Super Bowl III (Joe Namath over Johnny Unitas) in "upset factor".

Week 7 is officially in the books as Tuesday, the 21st of October rolls around today. Before I preview this Sunday's Vikings-Bears matchup this Sunday, there is one more area of the Vikings I would like to discuss...their pass defense.

For a short history lesson, the Vikings have had a porous pass defense for a good many years.  Even in the 1998-2000 years, when the offense was racking up the points and wins, the defense would almost certainly give up 250 yards through the air and a few scores.  Things only got worse during the Mike Tice era, when the "McCombs Administration" would not spend a time on the defense.  As Brad Childress put together such talent as Pat Williams, Antoine Winfield, Darren Sharper, and Dwight Smith (until the whole sex-in-the-stairwell thing), the overall defense seemed to improve, but teams (starting with the New England Patriots on a fateful Monday night in 2006) began to realizing that all you had to do to beat the Vikings was pass, pass, and then pass a little more.

Well what can we say after that wonderful gift we delivered to the city of Chicago. BLAST WEDNESDAYS

Hello NFL fans,

Well I am going to start up something new for all those NFL fans who have a lot to say but can’t get it out, enough. I have a lot of people writing, calling and just talking to me about the things that irk them about the NFL to include players, coaches, mascots, ticket prizes, play calls, cheerleaders…yes even that. I recently decided why not make a weekly manuscript about the things that hurt the fans, I know many legions of people out there are upset about their teams in some way shape or form. This is how we are going to do it every Wednesday, since it is the most boring day of the football week. Mondays and Sundays are game days. Tuesdays are layovers from the previous games and we seem to have nothing available in the middle of the week, until Friday when you get into college football mode.
