It has been a while and I don’t really have an excuse for not posting anything the last couple weeks. I guess since the Cowboys got trounced by the Minnesota Vikings I just haven’t had much inspiration. But I’ve come out of my temporary depression and have officially transitioned to the off-season. In between cartons of Ben & Jerry’s and episodes of Cash Cab I have thought long and hard about what the Cowboys need to do over the next 6-7 months in order to take the next step from playoff team to Super Bowl contender.

Ken Hamlin is supposed to be the enforcer on this defense but I saw him whiff on a couple of plays. And Hamlin’s coverage was just awful. He pretty much gave the Panthers their lone touchdown allowing two big plays right over the middle. I have backed Hamlin since he came to Dallas but I’m not sure he is deserving of that new contract he received last off-season. The drive killing penalties were also devastating in the first half and Jason Garrett has to find some way to correct that (more on him later).

Anthony Henry led the team with 6, Ken Hamlin had 5, and Newman rounded out the top three with 4. Needless to say, all of these players are still on the team—plus, the secondary has been dramatically improved with the additions of Adam Jones, Mike Jenkins, and Orlando Scandrick in place of Jacques Reeves and Nathan Jones.
