Marion Barber

ively fast.  Not to mention he will run your ass over.  He could eventually take over for Marion Barber as the short yardage back.  This offense needs weapons to help them sustain drives and Jackson fits that mold.  And it only makes sense to continue to add that UVA pedigree to the skill positions in Dallas.

situations.  And it wasn’t even close.  Although some of the blame can be placed on Marion Barber (who was dancing around in the backfield like a ballerina), Garrett does not seem to have enough variation in the calls.  Everyone knows who’s getting the ball on 3rd/4th and short when Barber is in the game.  Even Emmitt Smith wasn't impressed with the play calling.  I’m not necessarily saying Deion Anderson is the answer on short yardage either, but in the playoffs the Cowboys will have to mix it up.  Maybe a fake to Barber (at fullback) with the pitch out to Felix Jones?  I’m not a professional coach or anything, but that seems to work around the league.  What about actually handing the ball to Felix Jones in the wildcat (That reverse to Austin was just ugly)?  A little misdirection never hurt anybody…except the defense.

all and score points early, then you run the ball to ultimately when the game.  Imagine giving Marion Barber the ball 13 times in the second half with a 7+  point lead.  I don’t see the Cowboys losing very many games with that formula, and a consistent Tony Romo.

bsp; The running backs didn’t do a whole lot either.  Forgive me for my speculation, but Marion Barber looks like a shell of himself.  He is getting tackled much easier than the Barber from 2 years ago or even last year.  I saw him get taken down with an arm tackle on at least 2 occasions on Sunday.  Felix Jones doesn’t seem very healthy either.  The best option at this point is Tashard Choice, but it seems like the Cowboys are having a hard time figuring out whom to give the ball to in what situations.  I just don’t understand passing the ball on 1st and goal from the 1 yard line when you have Choice and Barber.  Everyone knows Barber can take it in from the 1 yard line without any offensive linemen…give him the ball!  If the Cowboys score there, and get that touchdown from Roy at the end of the game they are still in it despite playing very poorly.

This Sunday the Cowboys will return to Philadelphia in an attempt to try and avenge last season’s beating (hence the word crime) against the Philadelphia Eagles.  There is a lot of hype leading up to this game and it is well deserved.  The winner of this game will gain sole possession of the NFC East.  Both teams are playing extremely well at this juncture of the season.  And, via the embarrassing loss to Philly at the end of last year, the Eagles are currently the Cowboys biggest rival.  In fact, since 2003 there is only one team in the NFC that has more wins than the Cowboys and it is most conveniently those hated Eagles.

I have Marion Barber in both of these leagues, so I still have to wait on his status before my line ups are set.  My teams are eerily similar so that should lead to a similar level of success.

I am going to start out on a positive note as the Cowboys ran the ball beautifully.  Marion Barber and Felix Jones absolutely gashed the Giants defense and showed why they are prime picks in every fantasy draft.

Marion Barber, Felix Jones and Tashard Choice or as they are affectionately and appropriately named:  Crash, Dash and Tash,  need to be the new center of the offensive attack. It is through the running attack that passing game will be effective in the post TO offense.  I have a lot of faith in Roy Williams, but I feel that its with the other receivers that we will have the most success.  If Roy can become the possession receiver that Michael Irvin was, then we will have a great season.  If not, we will need the emergence of one of the younger receivers, otherwise JJ will go shoppin', and we really can't afford another trade like the one we gave up for Roy.

x Jones?  No problem as Choice delivered in the fourth, a quarter that is usually reserved for Marion Barber.  Barber was not himself, he finished with 8 rushes for 2 yards.  That's an average of 0.3 yards a carry.  Choice on the other hand was 9 for 91 yards and a touch.  His average carry was 10.1 yards.  Big difference.  It's safe to say that without Tashard Choice, the Cowboys falls back into the same type of game that they had against the Steelers, and blow another late lead.  The truth is this team played together, all the worthy components charging as one unit.  Romo battling through a back contusion, and coming back to score.  As he did against the Browns in game one, remember the taped chin?  Witten converting on that 3rd and 9 late in the game.  This was the game winner, Choice adding to it on the next play just icing on the cake.  The Defense was great.

ng game.  Either the wind or Tony Romo screwed that up.  Tashard is good enough that with Marion Barber and Felix Jones, they improve the backfield beyond what the Giant's three headed monster can do.  My feeling is that if Marion can't go, then Tashard will do the job.  My concern last week was that he would be the lone back and the added pressure might cook the rookie.  But his play proved me wrong, and I was pleasantly delighted with the results.  The loss was not on Tashard Choice.  A defensive gate that opened up in the last 7 minutes and fubar play by Tony Romo or Jason Witten cost us the game.  I'm very please with this year's draft.  Most have made an impact, unlike Adam Jones.  Next year will be something.  I fully expect a 13-3 season, NEXT year.  As for the last three games, my spidy sense tells me that 2-1 is not out of reach.  Unfortunately, the Cowboys will probably need a 3-0 run to make the playoffs.  Anything is possible and i reserve hope, but I must expect more of the same from this cast of boys.  If history repeats itself, and they do make it, then history will repeat itself and they will have a first round exit.  All I can say is WADE PHILLIPS, prove me wrong.

Dallas @ Pittsburgh:  The Cowboys will travel to Pittsburgh short-handed this week.  Marion Barber was left behind to heal his toe, as he did not make the trip to the Steel City.  The Steelers are sporting the No. 1 defense in the league, so Romo will have his work cut out for him.  Not having Barber may be a blessing in disguise, as it will force the ‘Boys to come out with all their guns blazing.  Pittsburgh will pound the rock, as they will try to dominate the line of scrimmage.  The ‘Boys will find a way to win, because they must!  Dallas 24, Pittsburgh 23.

13.  Can Romo and the boys hit 20, 21?  The weather may be a factor, not to mention that Marion Barber is a game time decision.  We need him in the fourth.  We need him to put that steel nail in the coffin.  I just don't think the rookie, Tashard Choice, can do it alone.  If Marion plays, and is effective, then bring on the Giants.  It'll be time to go rat hunting.  My feeling is the defense will get one to two interceptions, as the second string QB, i don't care who he is, or if he played for the Jags, will be making an appearance for the Steelers.  Score, my guess is 23/27 to 13/16, Cowboys.  Romo's feet are just too much for the Steel curtain.

ony Romo was billed as the stroyline to Sunday night's game against the 'Skins...and rightfully so, Marion Barber promptly stole the show.  While Romo performed admirably and made some plays that only he could make, including a brilliant 'push' pass to secure a game changing first down, without Barber eating up the fourth quarter it is likely the 'Skins racous crowd could have pushed them to a victory.  During the opening drive of the game, the 'Skins rammed the ball down the Cowboys throat.  This, incidentally, does not bode well for the Cowboys next meeting with the Giants.  If they cannot secure their run defense, they are in deep trouble against the G-Men.  Nonetheless, as the game wore on, the 'Skins seemed to get a bit pass-happy...and thankfully so.  This allowed the Cowboys pass rush (by far the best aspect of their defense) to tee off on Jason Campbell.  Given the ball, and sufficient time, the 'Skins may have been able to put together a homefield game winner drive.  However,

It's hump day, and the collective wheels are beginning to grind in Cowboy Country.  With what appears to be a must win on Sunday, Dallas is in the process of re-arming their team decimated by injury.  Who's back you ask, well lets just say everybody that was in game 1 with the exception of Adam Jones.

layers ever to play the game.  Just some food for thought for Pinkie boy.

Marion Barber did his best, as Troy would say, "Without question."  But was it the fault of the O-line, or was Barber just not able to get over the hump?  I'm leaning to O-line, but my hope is that Barber can create some of his own lanes with cutbacks and bouncing some of those off tackle runs outside.  He was tackled one on one, this almost never happens.  Just surprising is all.  Anyone remember Emmitt?  He would make the giants pay, O-line or no.  Marion is on notice.

Yesterday, the Cowboys defeated Tampa Bay 13-9.  The Cowboys were under a lot of pressure the past few weeks.  On and off the field issues fueled the fire.  Every news media outlet is looking through a microscope to see if and when the Cowboys will combust!  Sorry…ESPN…not this week!  We all know that you need the ratings and the material.  How else would you fill your pre and post-game shows?  Look elsewhere; there are 31 other teams with storylines.

nsive Player of the Week:

Two weeks ago I gave the best offensive player award to ground pounder Marion Barber.  I'm going to keep that trend this week, and give it to the rookie running back Felix Jones.  This is the fourth game that Jones has had a touchdown (against Philadelphia he returned a kickoff) and the third with more than 60 yards despite working in a dual backs system that heavily favors Barber.  This week Jones had 9 rushes for 96 yards and a touchdown.  That's pretty impressive for a rookie who sees limited handoffs.  He has an icredible ability to get to the outside utilizing blockers, and then puts on an incredible burst of speed to get through the secondary defenders.  While Barber thrives using contact and taking defenders head on, Jones is able to get around them much faster.  Not a bad fantasy pick if I say so myself.
