Michael Vick

Good morning nation,

Yes, it is only one hour into Christmas eve at this point, but after 4 glasses of honey whiskey on the rocks and putting my dog to sleep, I am ready to ramble.

First of all, isn't it just a bit awkward that the majority of the games are on Saturday and not Sunday?  This is definitely to accommodate the NBA and not Christmas, but it does guarantee us a great sports weekend.  I am looking forward to staying up all night and not waking up until football is on!  But I have errands to run and people to see tomorrow, so I am just going to stay up all night and wake up early.  But I am digressing…

This probably isn't news to anyone, but I truly do not appreciate the heinous rating that DeMarcus Ware received on the NFL Network's Top 100 players, nor do I appreciate the outright disrespect that Marshall Faulk showed on the Reaction Show afterwards.

alent is right here in the state of Virginia.  You don’t have to go very far to find the Michael Vicks, Aaron Brooks, Thomas Jones, DeAngelo Halls, or Percy Harvins of the world.  But those aren’t “Groh guys”.  Those aren’t “Parcels guys”.  Those aren’t “Belicick guys”. ( I’d like to go into why they aren’t, but that is a topic for another day when I have an opportunity to choose my words more wisely.)  But these guys are the best athletes in Virginia and you need guys like that to win in college football.  Groh wants a certain kind of player, and he is entitled to that desire but it’s just not conducive to winning at this level.  At the NFL level, everyone is a pretty good athlete so you can make it with players that are a little less athletic but have a higher football IQ.  College football is built on size, speed and athleticism…not brains (ask Frank Beamer).

Too often in this business, we rush ahead to the next big event without taking pause to evaluate the past and learn from it. In a way, this study will still be a celebration of the coming 2009 draft as I believe it will shed some light on certain overlooked trends that no one ever stops to consider. I will begin with a class by class showdown of sorts at the quarterback position over the last 10 drafts.  This is part II in the series:

Birds have dug a huge hole for themselves.

Andrew P., Atlanta, Georgia:  Michael Vick just plead guilty to state dog fighting charges.  Do you think he will get a shot to play again soon?

, the teetering of Bill Parcells being a part of the organization as a consultant, and the infamous Michael Vick fiasco.  What Smith brings to the table and represents is a clean slate.  He started that by drafting a quarterback with their first pick.  It was also evident that Smith wanted that draft pick to move the team past the

I nearly fell from my chair when Brees hit Robert Meachem with a TD. The Redskins looked surprised too, because they didn't seem to account for him well at all.
