Mike Jenkins

23 December 2009

o; where “Bush Team 2” was trying to get Chris Johnson and Andre Johnson in a trade for Mike Jenkins and Joseph Addai from “Bush Team 2”.  This was certainly the most ridiculous trade I had ever seen and I assumed that it would get vetoed pretty quickly. I even wrote a league wide e-mail for everyone to be on the lookout for “Bush League” tactics. Unfortunately, no one in that league pays attention to what’s going on (either that or the guy owns every team in the league which is entirely possible when I consider the fact that Bush Team 2  messaged me back saying that he “owned this league”).  When the trade went through after a couple of days I was pretty despondent, but I didn’t let it bother me too much.  I was still confident in my roster and I just knew that I would make the playoffs and beat the crap out of this punk.

ch maligned at various points this season, the WR/CB match-up is one that favors the Cowboys.  Mike Jenkins is playing lights out and Terrance Newman should match up better with the Chargers receivers.  San Diego’s wide outs are big and fast, but not super quick like the Giants wide outs (who they cannot stop).  Newman and Jenkins should be able to control them while the other guys pressure Rivers and double Gates.  If the Cowboys allow Antonio Gates to have a big game then they can kiss the playoffs goodbye.    Get back the special teams spark

the secondary has an injury from laying the wood, but they play better and better every week.  Mike Jenkins is a borderline Pro Bowler at this point.  And can anyone think of a better free agent pick-up this season than Keith Brooking.  The man is a beast and he is the soul of this defense.  He and Brady James are making each other a better players and he makes you wonder how the Cowboys thought Zack Thomas would fit into this system last season.  I have a good feeling that the defense is going to come to play in December.

4. Other observations…

Mike Jenkins has half-way shut me up with his performance in the beginning of this season.  Although he is outplaying Orlando Scandrick at this point I still think it has a lot to do with the fact that he is playing with a chip on his shoulder.  Being neck and neck with a fifth-rounder can do that to you.

be improved this year with the addition of Gerald Sensebaugh and the emergence of 2nd year players Mike Jenkins and Orlando Scandrick.  Right now no one is on the same page, and a lot of the blame has to fall on Wade Phillips.  For a coach who is certainly on the hot seat and who also serves as the defensive coordinator, he hasn’t been able to work any magic at the start of the season.  This defense made the Buccaneers look like an offensive juggernaut and ultimately couldn’t make the crucial stop to put this game away.

Scandrick 2

For most football fans, the battle between Orlando Scandrick and Mike Jenkins for the Dallas Cowboys’ starting right cornerback spot is quite insignificant.  They are both second year players attempting to replace a second tier veteran in Anthony Henry.  They are two of the fastest players on the team and they have shown flashes of their potential over the duration of last season, this off-season, training camp, and pre-season.  To the casual fan, the only difference between

right Snaikman, you and Steve Young should go bowling.

*  And the last bullet....Mike Jenkins.  Thanks for intercepting Elli Manning's pass and turning it into a touchdown.  Please take that tape, and in today's defensive back meeting, play it back for the other guys to see.  Play it 30 or 40 times so it sinks in real good.  This is what it looks like guys!  Do it often!

the team—plus, the secondary has been dramatically improved with the additions of Adam Jones, Mike Jenkins, and Orlando Scandrick in place of Jacques Reeves and Nathan Jones.

The point is that Big D needs more (some?) picks if it truly hopes to have a “Super” season, and what better week to start turning it around than this coming Sunday’s match-up with the Bengals. With Carson Palmer unlikely to play for the second straight week, Ryan Fitzpatrick is once again the projected starter. Last week against the struggling Browns he threw 3 picks and, over the course of his career, has thrown more than twice as many interceptions as touchdowns.  Now, the Bengals may try to rely on their ground game, but, with Chris Perry averaging a measly 2.9 yards per carry, it’s only a matter of time before they’ll have to take to the air to try to keep up with the ‘Boys’ high-voltage offense. Once this occurs, Dallas’ secondary needs to be ready. These will not be perfectly placed balls, and it shouldn’t be a surprise if T-New adds six more points to his career total.

crazy like carrying six CBs).  The talent level at the competition for those spots is high.

Mike Jenkins, the Cowboys second first-round pick, seems to be the leader of the pack for the number four spot, but Orlando Scandrick, a steal in the fifth round, could make a push in training camp.  Barring that, Scandrick will be competing with Evan Oglesby, Alan Ball, and Quincy Butler for that fifth spot.  While Scandrick has loads of upside, each player brings something to the table.  During mini-camps, Deion Sanders stopped by and told gathered media to keep an eye out for Oglesby.  I think it's fair to say that Prime Time knows his way around the cornerback position.
